The Tivon Chamber Choir

The Tivon Chamber Choir was established in 1974 and currently consists of some 55 singers from Tivon and Northern Israel.

The Choir's repertoire includes a cappella and oratorio pieces from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods as well as contemporary music including Israeli and folk music.

The choir performs locally and throughout the country, and has represented Israel abroad on several occasions. It appeared on Israeli television in 1993, at the Acre Vocal Festival in 1988, 1991, in the Zimriya in Jerusalem in 1993 and 2004, in the Abu-Gosh festivals in 1993, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2010. The choir appeared in Spain in 1985, in France and Germany in 1989, at the Europe Chantant in 1991, 1994, 1999 and 2009 and at the Neustift Festival in South Tirol in 2002. The Choir participated in a Jewish Music Festival in Safed in 2005, and in the Holiday-of-Holidays Festival in Haifa in 2005-2006.

In 2007 the choir was invited to participate in a musical happening in Poland which included participants from Germany and Poland.The event was organized as an attempt to bridge over past sorrow and suffering of the holocaust period. It included a series of concerts and a special one in Auschwitz.

The composers – Gil Shohat, Dov Carmel and Eran Dinur wrote music especially for the choir.

The choir participates in activities which involve the Israeli Symphony Orchestra, the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra and the Jerusalem Festival Orchestra.

The choir was added to the list of 'Omanut La'am' ('Art for the People') artistic entities in April 2001.

The choir is supported by the chain of Kiryat Tivon's local Youth Cultural Centers and by the Ministry of
Education and Culture.

Yael Wagner-Avital - conductress

Born in Jerusalem, graduate of the Rubin Music Academy Jerusalem in theory, composition and singing. Graduate of the Academic School of Music Frankfurt in conducting under the coaching of Prof. Helmut Riling

In 1985 Yael started conducting various choirs in Israel and was a teacher at Choir- Singing School, Oranim College, Rimon School and Haifa University.

Yael has been conductor of the Tivon Chamber Choir since 1998, and also conducts the local choirs Misgav and Haamakim (Gilboa). With the choirs she often appears in music festivals both in Israel and abroad, including orchestras and soloists and in a-cappella programs.
Yael also performs as a soluist in the Musical Youth productions in Israel.
